Middle Ages

In the Middle Ages there were many important events. There was the development of  Feudalism, The Crusades, The Magna Carta, The Hundred Years' War, The Black Death, and the disagreements between Popes and Kings.

Castles

This is one example of many castles in the medieval time period. There were many parts to a castle. But, it depended on how the castle was built to recognize parts that did and did not appear on the castle built. There were parapets, machicolations, a drawbridge, portcullis, barbican, postern gate, a moat, the curtain(or wall), arrow loops, towers, stables, a gate house, outer bailey, inner bailey, keep, dungeon, living quarters, sometimes little farms, and many people living among the castle and working for the king or the lord. The castle was usually built in a place that could protect it from attackers. For example on a rocky cliff, or a mountain or in a forest, a plain with a little city around it for protection or around a lake or a waterfall. It all depends on the location, design, and protection of a castle to help make it safe from attack.
